ILOILO CITY, (PNA) –- Comelec Regional Dir. Dennis Ausan said that he anticipates the concern on peace and order in Western Visayas during the Oct. 28 Barangay election not to be so serious as in other regions.
Dir. Ausan said that although the barangay election would be more emotional with the family and clan members taking interest to run even against each other, but yet the scenario as whole in the region would be more peaceful as in the past.
The Comelec total registered voters in Western Visayas is 4,208,345.
Per province the registered voters are Aklan with 342,925; Antique, 328,576; Capiz, 473,746; Guimaras, 103,802; Iloilo, 1,319, 694; and, Negros Occidental, 1,639,602.
As compared with that of the national and local elections last May 2013 where there were 4,049,000, the voters for the barangay election has increased by 159,345.
The increase in the number of voters is due to the addition of voters who have applied for transfer and the newly registered ones.
The Comelec although has included in their preparation the conduct of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) election that’s supposedly to be held in tandem with the barangay elections but because of the recent Bicameral Conference Committee ratification of the suspension of the SK election that the Comelec is now on the “wait and see” situation.
