ZAMBOANGA CITY, (PNA) -– The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is targeting to provide livelihood assistance to about 23,000 evacuees through the agency’s cash-for-work program.
DSWD Regional Director Zenaida Arevalo said Wednesday that they are finalizing the plans for the implementation of the program to include the identification of beneficiaries.
Arevalo said the beneficiaries’ works would include cleaning up of debris, construction of houses and other works that may be assigned to them.
The cash-for-work program aimed to help alleviate the present financial status of the identified beneficiaries and to motivate them towards productivity and positive work attitude.
Arevalo said that the implementation of the program is set to start as the situation permits.
As of Wednesday, DSWD records showed that 23,794 affected families comprising of 118,819 individuals are still staying in the evacuation centers.
Government forces continue to press on the remaining Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels as the standoff enters the 17th day Wednesday.
