BACOLOD CITY, (PNA) — Bacolod City Lone Rep. Evelio Leonardia is proposing the construction of another fly-over here, specifically at the east side of the city.
The proposed site of the fly-over is at the intersection of the Carlos Hilado Highway (Circumferential Road) and Burgos Street.
The existing Lacson-Circumferential fly-over is located in Barangay Bata at the north side of the city.
Leonardia said a similar road structure can help ease traffic flow in the east area, and improve the city’s road network.
The identified site is located along a commercial area which hosts shopping centers, supermarkets, restaurants, and a call center. It is situated a few meters away from the Bacolod Government Center.
Leonardia, who presented the proposal to Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson, said a fly-over in the area will address the bottleneck that builds up there especially during rush hour.
“Our studies of the traffic flow in Bacolod when I was still mayor showed that this area needs a fly-over to address the traffic jams,” the lawmaker said.
Leonardia stressed the need to ease traffic in the east side because it is a major growth center of Bacolod.
He also noted since the Carlos Hilado Highway extends all the way up north, including the access road to the Bacolod-Silay Airport, it is going to be a major traffic artery for the city.
“We should prepare for the heavy traffic that is expected when the airport access road is opened,” he added.
