ILAGAN CITY, Isabela, (PNA) — To instill preparedness in times of calamities, this city’s multi-awarded Rescue 922 conducted recently its second first-aid Olympics at the Francisco L. Dy coliseum here.
The Olympics is participated in by high school and colleges including the barangay rescue teams.
Rescue 922 head Ronald Viloria said the Olympics aims to inculcate preparedness among students and barangay responders in times of calamities.
“One of the basic knowledge of responders to victims or injured people brought by calamities is the provision of first-aid before delivering them to a nearest hospital”, Viloria said.
The first aid Olympics was first conducted last year through the initiative of the city’s rescue unit.
Viloria said winners in the recent Olympics were Our Lady of the Pillar College (OLPI) as champion, University of Perpetual Help System (UPHS) as 1st runner up, Isabela State University – Cauayan City campus as 2nd runner up for college/university category;
For the secondary level category, Cauayan City National High School’s (CCNHS) Bravo Junior Rescue Cauayan High was champion; CCNHS’s Alpha Junior Rescue Cauayan City, second runner up; and West Tabacal Region National High School as second runner up.
In the first BEready Responders on Disasters (BROD) challenge at the same venue, Barangay Minante 2 was adjudged as champion, Barangay District 3 as first runner up and Barangay San Fermin, second runner up.
The winners were awarded trophies and cash prizes during the competition.
