NAIROBI, (PNA/Xinhua) — The toll from a fatal attack on Kenya’s popular shopping mall has risen to 69, with 63 people missing on the third day of the standoff between security forces and Somalia-based Al-Shabaab fighters at the hotspot in Nairobi, the capital of the East African country.
The Kenya Red Cross said on Monday those still unaccounted for may include both hostages still held at the mall by their captors and victims already slain while yet to be confirmed.
Al-Shabaab linked to Al-Qaida claims responsibility for Saturday’s terror attack on Nairobi’s renowned Westgate shopping mall, saying it is avenging the military intervention launched in October 2011 by Kenya into southern Somalia against the militant group.
