MANILA, (PNA) — Although already having updated guidelines governing stem cell therapy, the Food and Drug Administration was urged by medical professionals to put a stop to stem cell therapy conferences and the like.
The FDA updated its guidelines after the deadline for application of accreditation of health facilities and application of registration of human cells, tissues, and cellular and tissue-based products (HCT/Ps) has lapsed on Aug 31.
Beginning Sept 1, this year all unregistered stem cell products that are processed, prepared and administered to patients in the Philippines are deemed illegal.
All HCT/Ps that will be offered to the patients are supposed to pass the FDA standard for safety, efficacy and quality.
On account of this, the PCP called on the FDA to order a “cease and desist with sanctions” order to any kind of promotional activities (conferences, print, broadcast and social media advertisements) concerning stem cell therapy.
The PCP called the FDA’s attention on a stem cell therapy conference hosted by Almarico – Adistem this coming September 24 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza titled: Awakening the Doctor within You.
Activities like these, according to the PCP, should not be held at this time because it will only confuse the unknowing public.
Even physicians and other healthcare providers may even be misled into thinking that such procedures are already accepted as standard of care, the PCP further stated.
