PCL chapter heads gather for Presidents’ Academy in Bacolod

Posted on September 22, 2013

BACOLOD CITY, (PNA) — Around 170 chapter presidents of the Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL) from all over the country will gather here during the PCL Presidents’ Academy meeting at the Palmas del Mar Resort on Sept. 24-26.

The Presidents’ Academy is a prelude to the PCL National Executive Officers and National Board Meeting slated Sept. 26-28 at the Bacolod Pavilion Hotel.

Parañaque City Councilor Alma Moreno, PCL national president, arrived in the city Sunday for the two activities.

Board Member Raul Rivera, president of PCL-Negros Occidental Chapter, said the Presidents’ Academy will have a series of activities, including a conference where the Local Legislative Academy will also be tackled.

Under the program, the PCL enables elected legislators to pursue their masteral and doctorate degrees through a tie-up with a university and in consonance with the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Rivera said the tie-up presently is with the University of the Philippines in Cebu, and councilors who availed of the program have to travel to Cebu to attend their classes.

He disclosed that he will propose to have a tie-up with a university in Bacolod so that councilors from Negros Occidental who want to avail of the program will no longer have to go to Cebu.

About 1,000 councilors all over the country have availed of the program.

Rivera said that in Negros Occicental, eight councilors have completed the program.
