President Aquino capable to stop atrocities similar to MNLFs’ attempt in ZamboBy: Teofilo P. Garcia, Jr. and R.G. Antonet A. Go

Posted on September 22, 2013

ZAMBOANGA CITY, (PNA) -– President Benigno Simeon Aquino, III said Sunday the immediate response of the government forces demonstrated the capability and resolve to stop atrocities similar to the attempt of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels in this city.

Hundreds of rebels infiltrated this city last September 9 with the mission to occupy City Hall, hoist the MNLF flag and declare independence.

President Aquino however said the rebels failed in their mission since the troops immediately intercepted and engaged them in a firefight before they could land at the shores of this city.

“Na-demonstrate ng pamahalaan, ng sandatahang lakas at kapulisan na kayang rumisponde anywhere,” President Aquino citing additional troops arrived to reinforce the soldiers and policemen already stationed in this city.

“Yong kanilang pwersa na dumating dito hindi nakabuo nagwatak-watak agad,” President Aquino added.

The rebel forces that landed either at the shores of Barangays Mampang and Talon-Talon failed to join their comrades in Barangay Sta. Barbara as troops set up a blocking force along Barangay Sta. Catalina.

Meanwhile, President Aquino said the group of Misuari has lost mass-based support due to the standoff here that entered the 14th day Sunday.

“Yong gustong umunawa at kumalinga sa kanila ay tila napalayo pa,” the President said in a press briefing before returning to Manila.
