MMDA accepts part time traffic enforcers due to fund lack

Posted on September 22, 2013

MANILA, (PNA) — Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Assistant General Manager for Operations Emerson Carlos on Sunday announced that the agency is now accepting part time traffic enforcers due to shortage of personnel to man the traffic in the metropolis.

In the agency’s weekly radio program, Carlos said due to its insufficiency of budget they are now accepting applications for new traffic auxilliaries who could work part time only.

Carlos admitted that the agency’s scarcity of fund hampers them from hiring additional traffic constables.

He said the current number of traffic enforcers is not enough to effectively man the traffic situation in Metro Manila.

Currently, the MMDA has only 1,400 traffic enforcers deployed all over Metro Manila.

He also explained that with 17 LGUs the agency divide the number of enforcers and in the number of shifts, thusone LGU can only be avail of the services of 80 enforcers.

He also said that to effectively manage traffic in the metropolis, the MMDA needs at least 5,000 enforcers.

“In order to augment its number, we should have enough funding for full time applicants, so we accept part time jobs only” said Carlos.

He said there are 200 vacant slots to fill in adding that the traffic auxilliaries would only assist the present traffic personnel deployed in the metropolis.

Carlos said the agency cannot hire the additional 3,600 it needs due to its lack of budget.

Carlos made the statement after Buhay Party list Rep. Lito Atienza and some motorists complained about the absence of traffic enforcers especially during the downpours.
