Salceda to present Albay tourism strategy to world ecotourism confab

Posted on September 22, 2013

LEGAZPI CITY, (PNA) –Department of Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. has invited Albay Gov. Joey Salceda to present the province’s successful tourism strategy to the 5th World Ecotourism Conference (WED) slated in Cebu City on Dec. 13-15, this year.

The conference, themed “Marine and Coastal Ecotourism: Ocean of Uncertainties, Waves of Opportunities,” is organized by the DOT and the DICOVERYMICE, an affiliate member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

In his invitation letter to Salceda, Jimenez said “the conference will bring together policy makers, stakeholders and global ecotourism players to network, collaborate and share their experiences, good practices and technologies for the betterment of nature conservation, environment protection, preservation of indigent communities and consequently, the advancement of ecotourism around the world.”

The conference will allow the private sector, academe and civil societies to pool their resources and realize common aims and objectives of supporting national and international programs on conservation and protection of marine and coastal resources, Jimenez added.

Salceda has accepted the invitation and said he will be speaking on the topic “Coastal Communities: Eliminating Poverty through Sustainability.”

Salceda is internationally noted as environmental and ecotourism champion with his aggressive policies on climate change adaptation leading to the province’s natural disaster resilience and programs on ecotourism, among them the formation of the Albay-Masbate-Sorsogon Tourism Alliance (AlMaSorTA).
