PESHAWAR, (PNA/APP) — A suicide blast near Church in Kohati Gate an interior locality of Peshawar Sunday killed at least 25 people including women and children and injured thirty others. Commissioner Peshawar, Sahibzada Anis confirmed the deaths of 25 people in the devastating blast.
The blast occurred when the people were coming out of the Church after Sunday service, the eye witness account said. SSP Operation Najeebullah told reporters that initial reports suggested that it was a suicide blast.
The injured have been rushed to the nearby Lady Reading Hospital and admitted in precarious condition. The blast occurred in one of the oldest Church of Peshawar situated in a congested locality which is always jam packed with the people mostly women as the area is the hub of markets and shopping centres.
The Christian community lives in the vicinity and visited the church for Sunday service in large number. The 1122 rescue teams rushed to site to carryout relief activities.
The police and security forces cordoned off the entire area and started search operation. Emergency has been declared in the city’s main hospitals.
