Palawan welcomes 31 new agripreneurs under Agripreneurship Program

Posted on September 20, 2013

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, (PNA) -– Palawan welcomed recently 31 new agripreneurs, who graduated and successfully received their Diploma on Entrepreneurship under the Agripreneurship Program: An Innovation in Business Education.

The graduates are products of the Molding Future Innovators Foundation, Inc. or the MFI Foundation, and the beneficiaries of the financial aids from the office of former congressman but now Vice Governor Victorino Dennis Socrates.

During the commencement exercise, Dr. Jose Rene Gayo of the Foundations for People Development (FPD) narrated that they went to request for funds for the program to many House representatives, but only the Socrates fulfilled his commitment to help the young agripreneurs.

Gayo added this only shows that Socrates has integrity and can be trusted for displaying concern to the welfare of the agripreneur graduates.

Socrates made his commitment in partnership with the Department of Agriculture Research Outreach Station-Palawan Agricultural Experiment Station (DAROS-PAES) and Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).

Meanwhile, Socrates said in his message that he wishes the new agripreneurs the “best of luck” in their achievements, and to be clear in their minds about their intentions in life.

Quoting the book by Stephen R. Covey that has the title Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, he told them to “Begin with the end in mind.” He also quoted San Agustin, who said the same thing.

On the other hand, Col. Alejandro Escaño, president of the MFI Foundation, Inc., said the 31 Palaweño youths who graduated with specialization on eco-farm tourism are ready to become agripreneurs.

Seventy percent of what they learned was practical knowledge and 30% lectures and laboratory. They are equipped with ample knowledge to become successful farmers running eco-tourism farms in Palawan.

They also underwent accreditation from the Technical & Educational Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The agripreneurs graduated on September 18, 2013 at the Victoriano J. Rodriguez Hall, Provincial Capitol.
