ZAMBOANGA CITY, (PNA) -– Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar on Friday announced that “a sense of normalcy is felt in most part of this city” despite the continuing standoff that started when Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels infiltrated here.
Salazar’s statement came after she noticed private offices and companies as well as that of national government agencies “outside the conflict zone resumed operations.”
Salazar said that “more and more commercial establishments, banks and other business centers have opened” despite the crisis is hitting hard the business sector.
The crisis started when hundreds of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels infiltrated this city last September 9.
Salazar has revealed that there is about P763 million unconsummated sales from September 9-18, which include the tangible and intangible items of trade and do not include salaries and wages of workers.
She said the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has scheduled periodic currency shipments to the Zamboanga branch to ensure the continuous availability of cash to local banks.
Commercial flights from and to this city have also resumed starting Thursday.
