MANILA, (PNA) — Two still unidentified New People’s Army (NPA) fighters were killed following a clash with Eastern Mindanao Command troopers in Sison, Surigao Del Norte Friday morning.
Capt. Alberto C. Caber, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson, said that government forces were on routine security patrol when they encountered the rebel band who were on extortion and harassment mission around 7:40 a.m. in Barangay Ima, Sison town.
A 45-minute firefight broke out and resulted in the death of the rebels. Recovered were four assault rifles, improvised explosive device, radios, medical kit, backpacks and subversive documents.
Caber said government forces sustained no casualty as the rebels quickly fled.
Pursuit operations are still ongoing.
