MANILA, (PNA) — Philippine representatives to the World Junior Chess Championship Jerad Docena (ELO 2227) defeated Ozan Cingoz (ELO 1918) of Turkey while counterpart Jan Jodilyn Fronda (ELO 2038) beat Woman Fide Master Barbara Juhasz (ELO 2169) of Hungrary in the seventh round of the World Junior Chess Championships 2013 on Friday at The Ness Hotel in Kocaeli, Turkey.
Docena raised his total points to 3.5 for a share of 53rd place in the Men’s Open category while Fronda accumulated 4.0 points to join a bunch of ladies in 18th place in the Girls division.
Docena will next meet England’s FM Samuel Franklin (ELO 2353) while Fronda will play opposite Russia’s WIM Maria Bezgodova (ELO 2172) of Russia.
GM Yu Yangyi (ELO 2662) of China and WGM Irina Bulmaga (ELO 2387) of Romania, are the current leaders in the men’s and girl’s division with 6.5 points and 6.0 points each, respectively.
