RYAZAN, (PNA/Itar-Tass) — An international environmental film festival opens here on Thursday and will run until September 22. Ryazan cinema-goers will be able to see the best films on environmental topics. The review will end with discussions in which prominent ecologists will participate, an official at the festival’s organizing committee told Itar-Tass.
“The films we show have been brought to Russia and translated expressly for the festival. So, cinema-goers can see them only here at this festival,” Anastasia Laukkanen, Director of the festival, told Itar-Tass.
The festival’s bill includes four full-length films and two short-length programs which tell about efforts to dispose of garbage and the dependence of the residents of big cities on automobiles, and propound the idea that it is worthwhile for the contemporary society to come to face the environment for the sake of the future.
Festival organizers select films at foreign ecological festivals, including such prominent ones as CinemAmbiente, Italy, and Nation’s Capital, USA. Film directors turn over their films, most often documentaries, to festival organizers free of charge. This is why admission to all film shows at the festival is free.
The international non-profit ecological film festival was first held in Moscow in 2010. This time, the festival is held in several cities of Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. In Ryazan, the festival is held for a second time.
