BACOLOD CITY, (PNA) — Members of the Visayan bloc in the House of Representatives are pushing for the creation of the Visayan Tourism Highway that will allow travelers from the eastern part of the region to be transported to the western side the fastest time possible.
Negros Occidental 3rd District Rep. Alfredo Benitez, one of the convenors of the Visayas bloc, said they are determining the alignment of the route to be traversed faster through an inter-island or inter-province system.
We want travel to be safe, fast and easy, he said.Benitez said the budget requirements for such endeavor could be included in the General Appropriations Act.
He added that the Visayan bloc continues to hold meetings and have also asked the different agencies to keep them updated on the budget in their respective areas.
Benitez said that the latest cabinet official they have invited is Secretary Rogelio Singson of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Following the abolition of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) in the 2014 General Appropriations, legislators could only recommend projects for their respective districts through line agencies.
