MANILA, (PNA) — The low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Luzon has high chance to develop into tropical cyclone, the state weather bureau said on Sunday.
Weather Forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said that as of 10 a.m., the LPA was spotted 1,090 km east of Luzon (15.6°N, 133.0°E) and this weather system is not expected to affect any part of the country within 24 to 48 hours.
However, he said this LPA is already inside the country’s PAR has a higher chance of becoming a tropical depression since “it is still in the sea, where it could pick up more moisture.”
He said it will be named “Odette” once it intensifies into a cyclone, the 15th tropical depression to enter the country this year.
Meanwhile, Aurelio said southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over the western section of Luzon which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
PAGASA advised residents in these areas to take all the necessary precautionary measures.
