CEBU CITY, (PNA) — Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has announced that the city has been chosen as venue for the 11th Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies (Easts) conference in 2015.
The international gathering, which will be held on the third or last quarter of 2015, seeks to “gather best practices and good experiences” from transportation experts in Asia.
It also aims to address issues on how to establish an integrated transport system.
Rama, who has just returned from a one-week trip to Taipei in Taiwan, said the international conference will bring attention to Cebu City among countries in East Asia, which includes Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, North Korea, South Korea and Japan.
Rama said the international conference is expected to gather at least 700 transportation experts.
He said 700 experts participated in the Easts board meeting in Taipei last Sunday.
Rama said it was only Cebu City that made the bid to host the event.
He said the Transportation Science Society of the Philippines (TSSP) was the one that proposed that the country, particularly Cebu City, host the gathering.
The TSSP urged Rama to support their proposal and join them in Taipei to formally express the City’s desire to be host the event.
Rama said the academe will also help the Cebu City Government prepare and organize the Easts conference.
Rama said he will be meeting the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) and the Cebu City Police Office in the coming months to discuss preparations for the activity.
