SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, (PNA) — The “seal of wholesome meat” is now being distributed by the city government in all food establishments here to assure the public of the safety of meat products being sold in the city.
City Veterinary Officer Flosie Decena explained that the seal is a sign for compliant by food and meat establishments on the standards for proper meat handling, packaging and processing.
This seal of wholesome meat is an initiative of the city government headed by Mayor Pablo Ortega to institutionalize the assurance and guarantee safety of eating meat food products by the customers in food establishments”, she said.
Aside from this, the move also seeks to promote the food establishments positively.
According to Decena, the project is part of their unit’s breakthrough on the Performance Governance System aiming to generate an increase of revenue collection from P4 million to P5 million by December 2013.
“We will inspect at least 25 food and meat establishments every week,” she added.
During the inspection, the team will also gather additional information from the establishment owners like the source of the meat supply and the selling rate per day.
The city veterinary office has already inspected a total of 385 establishments within the city proper to date.
Initially, we prioritize inspecting food establishments within the central business district, Decena said.
Other restaurants, fast foods, and even small-scale food joints will also be covered in the next few days, she added.
