MANILA, (PNA) — The Armed Forces Saturday announced the death toll on the ongoing stand-off between military units and members of the Moro National Liberation Front has now reached 53.
Maj. Angelo Guzman, AFP deputy public affairs office chief, said the figures are as of noon Saturday.
This is broken down into:
-AFP – 3 killed; 35 wounded
-PNP – 3 killed; 6 wounded
-Civilians – 4 killed; 20 wounded
MNLF – 43 killed; 9 wounded, with another 19 captured
Guzman said figures include casualties in clash atBarangay Kasanyangan which took place around 10:04 a.m.
In this encounter, MNLF fighters battled with troops of Marine Battalion Landing Team 3.
Killed in this fight was one soldier while another five were wounded.
While on the MNLF side, four were killed (bodies recovered).
Also captured in this encounter was an M-60 light machine gun and an M-16 automatic rifle.
