NEW DELHI, (PNA/Xinhua) — Nine people were killed and a dozen others injured in a bomb blast in the northeast Indian state of Manipur on Friday, said local media Saturday.
The victims were all migrant laborers from various parts of India and died in Imphal West District in the state capital, Indo- Asian News Service quoted police as saying.
The powerful explosion took place around 7:45 p.m. at a busy area on the outskirts of Imphal.
There are an estimated 19 militant group active in Manipur, bordering Myanmar, with demands ranging from secession to greater autonomy and target police and migrant laborers from other parts of India frequently with bomb attacks.
India’s northeast populations are ethnically different from the mainland part of India.
