Posted on September 14, 2013

DAVAO CITY, (PNA) — The Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., the social development arm of the Aboitiz Group of Companies, and Davao Light and Power Co., Inc., turned over Saturday one unit two-classroom kindergarten school building in Barangay Pag-asa, Kapalong, Davao del Norte.

The new kindergarten school was constructed at the campus of Pag-asa Elementary School in Barangay Pag-asa, one of three barangays in Kapalong, Davao del Norte that are within the franchise area of the Aboitiz-owned electric distribution utility.

The turn-over was spearheaded by Arturo Milan, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Davao Light and Assistant Vice President Danny Cerence.

On hand to accept for AGAPP was Jocy Ledesma, representative of the foundation for Davao Region. The recipient Dept. of Education (DepEd) was represented by Division Superintendent Dr. Josephine Fadul and school principal Dina D. Limos.

The occasion was also witnessed by Kapalong Mayor Edgardo Timbol and Pag-asa Barangay Captain Mr. Arthur Lontoc Jr.

The executives of Davao Light and AFI were joined in by the company’s Panabo Branch Manager Engr. Reynold Felix, and the foundation’s Engr. Greggylou Estremos who is in-charge of infra project donations.

According to Davao Light Community Relations Department Manager Vic N. Sumalinog, donation of kinder schools is one of the Aboitiz Group’s way of supporting the Department of Education’s new K to 12 curriculum that started in school year 2012 –2013.

The 2-classroom facility worth P1.2 million is a donation by the Aboitiz Foundation to Aklat Gabay at Aruga Tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa (AGAPP) Foundation chaired by Presidential sister Pinky Aquino-Abellada.

Aboitiz Foundation has committed to build for AGAPP some 20 units of 2-classroom kindergarten school buildings for the period of 2013 to 2014.

The management of the conglomerate hopes that the additional new classrooms will enhance the effectiveness of teaching the kindergarten kids and make more effective the second year of implementation of the K to 12 education curriculum.
