Informal sectors in Metro Manila to become Philhealth members

Posted on September 14, 2013

MANILA, (PNA) — Drivers, vendors, store owners and other informal sectors are the targets of the Roving Philhealth Campaign to receive assistance in Philhealth membership under the Individually Paying Program.

“All streets and household will be visited and informed on the importance of being a Philhealth member and encourage everyone to register,” according to Department of Health (DOH) Regional Director Educardo C. Janairo.

The Roving Philhealth Campaign, organized by the Department of Health-National Capital Region (DOH-NCR) will establish a help desk in all of the targeted barangays to provide assistance on issues and concerns of the member and non-member of Philhealth.

A team will also roam around the barangay households for a more intensified campaign on information dissemination about Philhealth membership.

Tracking those who are enrolled and assisting in membership modification are some of the services provided by the campaign, which started Saturday at Barangay 752, Zone 81 in Singalong, Manila

Barangay Chairman Francis V. Villegas said: “This is a big help for the people in this barangay because most of them lack knowledge on how to become a member.”

According to the press release by DOH, Center for Health Development in NCR, the Roving Philhealth campaign will be held in 41 barangays all over Metro Manila from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Once the campaign is established, it will be done regularly every Saturday of the month.

The campaign also seeks to verify members under the National Housing Targeting System (NHTS) if they are enrolled or not and those under the Conditional Cash Transfer Program (CCT) of the government if they have utilized their health cards.

The activity is being conducted in coordination with the NCR offices of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philhealth Insurance Corporation, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and 16 local governments of Metro Manila.

“We are aiming to enroll all the target population in order for them to have access to an efficient and quality health care service. It is the mandate of the government to ensure that every Filipino shall receive affordable health benefits under the Universal Health Care Program. Once they have Philhealth card, they can go to any government hospital without any financial worries. The card alone will take care of all their health needs,” said Janairo.
