MANILA, (PNA) — Due to continuous rains brought by the intertropical convergence zone and a potential cyclone moving near Luzon, Binga Dam in Benguet kept one spill gate open to let out excess water since its water level remained high on Thursday, according to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
As of 6:00 a.m., Binga still kept one gate open at 0.8 meters its water level rose to 574.10 meters or 0.90 meters short its spilling level of 575 meters, but lower than the 574.76 meters recorded on Wednesday.
Binga’s water flows downstream to the San Roque dam in Pangasinan, which can contain the water spillage.
San Roque Dam’s water level stood at 271.14 meters as of 6 a.m. Thursday, or way below its normal 280.00-meter level.
In Novaliches, Quezon City, La Mesa dam’s water level stood at 79.12 meters as of 6 a.m. Thursday, higher than 79.09 meters Wednesday below the spilling level of 80.15 meters.
Meanwhile, other dams’ water levels also rose on Thursday as Ambuklao Dam, Benguet has 751.43 meters, higher than Wednesday’s 751.30 meters which has spilling level of 752 meters; while Pantabangan Dam, Nueva Ecija recorded 198.14 meters, higher than Wednesday’s 197.87 meters which has spilling level of 216 meters; Magat Dam, Isabela: 191.49 meters, higher than Wednesday’s 191.11 meters which has spilling level of 190 meters.
Meanwhile, water levels of Ipo and Angat Dam in Bulacan, and Caliraya dam in Laguna are either below or at normal levels, the weather agency added.
PAGASA said on Thursday that rain may fall over parts of the country as the the low-pressure area moved closer to Luzon embedded inter-tropical convergence zone across Luzon and Visayas.
