VIENNA, (PNA/Xinhua) — The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) signed an agreement in Vienna Wednesday to support agribusiness in developed countries.
The agreement, signed by UNIDO Director General Li Yong and Richard Clemens, a section Managing Director of the VDMA, will aim to build the capacity of agribusiness value chains in developing countries and countries with economies in transition, UNIDO stated in a press release.
Director General Li said agribusiness firms in such countries required support to “upgrade and enhance compliance with market requirements,” and also to promote economic and social development.
The partnership is also focused on developing and extending the necessary skill bases in technology and methodology relating to agribusiness value chains, including the establishment of operational and capacity-building maintenance centers in Africa, for which Clemens said he had already been looking into suitable locations.
