MANILA, (PNA) — Suspected members of the Moro National Nation Liberation Front (MNLF) and government troopers have engaged each other in a firefight in Lamitan City, Basilan Thursday morning.
Initial reports said this took place around 9 a.m.
The encounter is ongoing as of this posting. No reports of casualties are in yet.
It was not immediately clear if the suspected MNLF members in Basilan are allied with those now engaging government forces in a standoff in Zamboanga City since Monday.
The standoff in Zamboanga City entered its fourth day Thursday, with the situation still tense and police and soldiers maintaining strict checkpoint operations.
