LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, (PNA)–The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) is now discussing a novel proposal seeking to strengthen the dairy industry of the town.
The proposal of the Samahan ng Maralitang Magsasaka led by Renato Navata seeks the intervention of the local government unit (LGU) in stabilizing and strengthening the yet small dairy market in the town.
The group at present is into dairy production. It has 13 Bulgarian murrah buffaloes(BMB), all being raised in Sitio Patalan-Gubat, Barangay Tumbar.
Each BMB is capable of producing an average of 10 liters of milk daily for up to 300 days.
These BMBs will soon give birth one after another beginning next month up to July 2014.
The group said even at low average harvest of four liters of milk per head per day, the total yield of 13 lactating buffaloes would still amount to a big volume of 364 liters per week or 1,457 liters per month.
According to the project concept presented to the SB, the LGU of Lingayen can sponsor a milk-feeding program among schools using fresh milk supplied daily by the group.
“It will be a dual-purpose milk feeding project: giving our undernourished schoolchildren better chances of succeeding and at the same time give our small farmers a chance to start a dairy project,” the concept reads.
