ILOILO CITY, (PNA)-– No letter for suspension of the new perimeter boundary ordinance (PBO) reached the city council as city mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he was advised by vice mayor Jose Espinosa III to allow the PBO implementation only after publication in a newspaper of general circulation.
The new PBO will have to be implemented first before suspension, the city chief executive said after fulfilling all the requirements for its implementation including publication.
The new PBO authored by city councilor Plaridel Nava will only take effect 15 days after publication and the publication may occur by October this year. This will give ample time for the projects to be completed including the installation of five initial traffic lights, Mabilog said.
Other projects designed to ease out the traffic situation include several projects such as the expansion and road widening of the Senator Benigno Aquino Avenue or the diversion road, road widening at E. Lopez Street in Lapaz district and the retrofitting of Washington Bridge in Jaro district.
When completed, these road sections will allow smooth traffic for both private and public vehicles, Mabilog said.
Earlier, city councilor Eduardo Peñaredondo, chairman of the SP Committee on Appropriations and staunch oppositor to the new PBO, said there is no more money available for the publication of said ordinance. Technically, there is nothing to suspend as PBO has not yet fulfilled its requirement for implementation as a local law.
Mabilog reiterated that the city government is in good fiscal management and there is more than P933 million funds available for services and projects until the end of 2013.
