ZAMBOANGA CITY, (PNA) -– The National Food Authority (NFA) has intensified starting Wednesday the implementation of “rice control” on the sale of government rice amid the standoff in this city.
NFA Provincial Manager Gaudencio Nuega, Jr., said Wednesday that each of the consumers will only be allowed to purchase a maximum of 10 kilos.
Nuega said the scheme will be implemented on all of the accredited outlets of NFA-rice especially at the public markets.
“We will regulate the sale, if not, only few people can avail,” Nuega explained.
Among the stocks available at the NFA outlets are the Iron Fortified Rice (IFR), which is sold at P27 per kilo and other varieties that are sold at P28, P25, and P26 per kilo, according to Nuega.
He warned owners of NFA-accredited outlets to retail the stocks of NFA-rice not to sell in wholesale and “not to overprice.”
He said they will cancel the accreditation of outlets that sell overpriced rice and those who will sell more than 10 kilos to each consumer.
Meanwhile, Nuega has assured the public that this city has adequate inventory of 350,000 sacks of 50 kilos, which is more than enough to supply the needs of the public up to December this year.
Nuega said his office is also monitoring the situation on the rice stocks in the market as well as the prices of both NFA and commercial rice.
