26 arrested in intensified anti-gambling drive in Ilocos

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M. FLORENDO, (PNA) -– The Region 1 police arrested 26 suspects in two separate anti-illegal gambling operations conducted in Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur since during the first week of September.

Police Chief Superintendent Ricardo C. Marquez, head of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), said 24 alleged jueteng personnel were arrested in Barangay Paras, Candon City, Ilocos Sur and two ohers in Pangasinan.

The arrested suspects in Ilocos Sur were identified as Leo Tan, Alvin Pascua, Rose Lazo, Roy Munoz, Miguel Roxas, Jhun Monda, Rene Ragun, Joel Naruasa, Pedro Ramos, Edmar Gadia, Dan Valdez, Bony Ruiz, Cardo Ganab, Resty Raguindin, Abner Sabala, Josephine Liagas, Marilyn De Guzman, Liza Lorenzo, Cynthia Abalos, Loida Gamueda, Grace Del Rosario, Nida Domingo, Adora Abaya and Diomedes Encarnacion, all residents of said city.

Joint operatives from the Police Intelligence Branch of Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office (ISPPO) and Candon City Police Station in coordination with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of Ilocos Sur and La Union seized assorted papelitos marked with Jai-Alai owned by Meridien Vista Gaming Corporation, bet money amounting to P60,800 and various “jueteng” paraphernalia.

In Pangasinan, implementation of two Search Warrants for Illegal Gambling succeeded in the arrest of a suspected financier and a “cabo” in Padilla Street, Poblacion, Lingayen.

The two suspects were identified as Ricardo R. Ferrer alias Katdong, 5,1 alleged financier; and Edzel F. Tantay, 30, identified as the “cabo”, both resident of the place who were arrested by virtue of Search Warrrant No. SCC-2013-76 against Ferrer.

The operatives of Lingayen Police Station, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Pangasinan, Regional Intelligence Division (RID), of Polie Regional Office 1 and Regional Intelligence Unit 1 (RIU1) confiscated “jueteng bets amounting to P 29,270 and different paraphernalia.

The other search warrant No. SCC-2013-77 was issued against Loreto D. Romero alias Enget/Bading who was not present though.

However, the team confiscated assorted jueteng kits, bundles of papelitos with MVGC markings and cash money worth of P350.

Appropriate charges have already been filed against the arrested persons for violation of Republic Act 9287, otherwise known as an Act Increasing the Penalties for Illegal Numbers Game, Amending Certain Provisions of Presidential Decree 1602.

The PRO1 Regional Director stressed the police will double their efforts to contain “jueteng” and other prohibited numbers games in his area of jurisdiction. ma

“We will continuously conduct intensified operations to stump out illegal gambling in Ilocos region,” he said.
