MANILA, (PNA) — The potential cyclone spotted east of Mindanao is expected to enter the Philippine territory on Tuesday but the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to bring cloudy skies with light rains in Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Weather Forecaster Jori Loiz said that as of 4 a.m. Tuesday, a low pressure area (LPA) was estimated at 1,210 km east of Mindanao (7.0°N, 138.5°E) embedded along the ITCZ across Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
But Loiz said the LPA will enter the country within the day but would not be immediately felt even it is already inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) because it is still too far away.
He said the country would likely feel its effect two to three days after it enters the PAR.
Based on numerical models, Loiz said the LPA has a chance of becoming a tropical cyclone.
Once it intensifies into a tropical depression, he said it will be named “Odette” — the first cyclone to visit the country this month and the 15th for this year.
Loiz also said that the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will experience mix weather from sunny to cloudy skies with possible afternoon and evening rains due to localized thunderstorms.
In its advisory, PAGASA said that Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.
It added that Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA also said that moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the east will prevail over extreme Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to occasionally rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest to southeast with slight to moderate seas.
