MANILA, (PNA) — The 10th Infantry Division, which is based in Panacan, Davao City, announced that the security situation in the Davao Region remains normal.
It made this statement in wake of the attack by rogue Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) members in Zamboanga City which resulted in a tense stand-off and hostage taking of at least 20 to 30 individuals.
“There is no imminent threat or danger monitored as of this report. Everybody is hoping for peace in the region,” 10th Infantry Division spokesperson Maj. Jake Obligado said.
He added that local chief executives in the division’s area of responsibility are in close coordination with the MNLF leaders in their area to make sure the situation remains normal.
Gov. Corazon Malanyaon of Davao Oriental said the provincial government is in frequent dialogues with local MNLF leaders.
“There is normalcy in the situation. Everybody is peacefully living and they want to continue with their daily business, livelihood and community activities,” Malanyaon said.
“They have affinity in the place and they are peace loving,” she added.
While Gov. Arturo Uy of Compostela Valley Province likewise mentioned that he is in close coordination with the MNLF leaders of his area.
“The situation is normal,” Uy stressed.
In Davao City, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is conducting dialogues with the MNLF leaders in order to ensure that peace and normalcy will remain in the city.
