Comelec to release an instructional video for BETs

Posted on September 8, 2013

MANILA, (PNA) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will soon release an instructional video to help public school teachers who will serve as Boards of Election Tellers (BETs) in the coming October 28 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

In a statement, Commissioner Grace Padaca said the video will contain voting and counting procedures and inputs on how to manage the polling place.

She added that the video will be released in time for the series of trainings to be conducted starting second week of October.

The poll body will be hiring more than 500,000 public school teachers for the scheduled polls to man the 170,000 clustered precincts all over the country.

The Education and Information Department (EID) of the poll body is producing the instructional video.

BETs are mandated to conduct the voting and counting of votes in their respective polling precincts; maintain order within the precincts and its premises; and act as deputies of the Comelec in supervising and controlling the conduct of elections.

Meanwhile, the poll body has reported that the printing of official ballots for the October 28, 2013 polls has started last week at the National Printing Office (NPO).

Commissioner Luie Guia said they are looking to finish the printing of the more than 52 million ballots within a month and plans to distribute the printed ballots by October 17-18.

He added that the printing of other accountable forms such as elections returns, certificates of canvass, statements of votes by precinct are almost complete.
