CUYAPO, Nueva Ecija, (PNA) –The Nueva Ecija Provincial Police Office (NEPPO) is keeping a close watch of the movement of firearms in several areas in the province.
This is part of their efforts to ensure a peaceful and orderly barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
Senior Supt. Crizaldo Nieves said he directed his field commanders to be on the lookout for gun-toting activities that might be used in sowing terror in the October 28 local polls.
As a result of their intensified campaign against loose firearms, the provincial police authorities have confiscated Friday high-end explosives in two farmers’ houses in this town.
Confiscated from the houses of Orlando Lucredo, 70, and his son Rey 47, both farmers, and residents of Barangay Malbeg, this town were one anti-personnel hand grenade and one MK2 fragmentation grenade.
The older Lucredo yielded two caliber .22 magnum and three caliber .9mm ammunition.
Earlier this week, the provincial police also confiscated a couple of Smith & Wesson caliber .38 revolvers from alleged gunrunner Romeo Diaz alias “Bobby,” of Purok 5, Barangay Sampalucan, Bongabon.
Intelligence reports disclosed that among Diaz’s customers in his gunrunning activities are those who are aspiring for the upcoming barangay and SK elections.
