MANILA, (PNA) — One hundred fifty one distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have returned home as of Friday the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
First to arrive via Singapore Airlines flight SQ-912 which touched down at 3:45 pm were 22 OFWs coming from Egypt apparently to escape getting caught in the crossfire as civil unrest is still ongoing in parts of that country, including Cairo.
Next to arrive via Qatar Airways flight QR-646 were 46 troubled OFWs from Syria. Like the others, they too, wanted to evade the turmoil. The plane arrived at 4:20 pm.
Later in the day, 83 OFWs coming from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia arrived via Malaysian Airlines flight MH-803 which touched down at 5:30 pm.
The OWWA-NAIA said the Philippine government shouldered their airfares under the repatriation program.
Fifty more OFWs from Syria are expected to arrive late Friday night on board Etihad flight EY-428 which is scheduled to arrive at 11:10 pm.
