MANILA, (PNA) — Two deputy directors of the National Bureau of Investigation on Friday maintained they will not resign from their post.
Deputy Director for Intelligence Services Reynaldo Esmeralda and Deputy Director for Special Investigation Services Ruel Lasala personally informed Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima about their decision to stay in their post.
De Lima confirmed to the media about the decision of the two officials.
However, De Lima refused to disclose the reasons of Lasala and Esmeralda in their refusal to submit their courtesy resignation.
According to De Lima, she cannot compel the two officials to resign as their resignation should be done voluntarily.
De Lima said she is now focused on what will be the announcement of Malacanang on Rojas’ resignation and if it is already necessary for her to designate an officer-in-charge of the NBI.
In their meeting with De Lima, Lasala and Esmeralda defended themselves in the accusation of President Benigno S. Aquino III that there are untrustworthy officials in the NBI.
According to the two officials, they felt that they were being alluded to by such an accusation when in fact they had they had nothing to do with the “leaking” of the warrant of arrest of Janet Lim Napoles.
They also expressed their readiness to undergo any investigation.
