Roxas claims that he just follow orders from the President

Posted on September 6, 2013

MANILA, (PNA) — Interior and Local Government Sec. Mar Roxas on Friday said that he is just one of the soldiers who follow orders from his superior after his views were asked if he is aware that he is already stepping on somebody’s foot in implementing some orders.

“I am just following President’s instruction,” Roxas told members of the House committee on Appropriations after he was asked if he was aware that he is already encroaching other functions.

The DILG is asking close to P100 billion budget for next year, higher by P8 billion compared to their 2013 budget.

Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco questioned Roxas over the P500 million allocation of temporary shelter to 23,000 informal settlers in its proposed budget for 2014.

He said that job should be given to the National Housing Authority (NHA) as the sole agency in charge of providing shelter to its citizenry.

At the same time, Tiangco said the DILG budget ballooned for access to potable water in communities this time, a job belongs to the Local Water Utilities Authority (LWUA) outside the services of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).

Roxas argued that he cannot be selective to what orders he will follow claiming that the bottom line is to help President Aquino to address the problem.

“I am no position to question the orders of the President as I presumed that other government officials like me can understand that I have no intention at all to surmise their competence,” Roxas stressed as he reiterated to the House panel that he is just following orders.

He clarify that he does not want to overshadow anybody and no intention at all but following orders of the higher ups.
