ILOILO CITY, (PNA)– Some 423 households in remote areas in the northern part of Iloilo Province benefited from the Household Electrification Program Solar Home Systems thru the strong partnership of Iloilo Electric Cooperative III, Inc. and Dept. of Energy.
Barangay Tagubanhan and Punta Buri in Ajuy, Barangay Bagongon in Concepcion, Sitio Naburot and Buenavista in Carles were among the 5 baranggay/sitios lighted using the Solar Home System.
The project is under the Household Electrification Program of the current administration, which aims to contribute to the attainment of the National Government’s Rural Electrification program goal of attaining 90 percent household level electrification by 2017.
No less than Mario M. Marasigan, Director of Renewable Energy Management Bureau of DOE, spearheaded the DOE team who visited ILECO III for the ceremonial switch-on in Brgy. Preciosa, Sara, Iloilo.
Mayor Juan Alvarez of Ajuy, Mayor Arnold Betita of Carles and Municipal Administrator Carlito Carrera of Concepcion also witnessed the ceremonial switch-on.
Solar Power Association Officers of five recipients were inducted into office by Engr. Antonio Labios, Director of DOE Visayas Field Office.
Engr. Labios said that this project involves the provision of electricity service in remote off-grid households usually located in islands and areas inaccessible to vehicles.
DOE also cited additional household in more island barangays in Northern Iloilo under ILECO III franchise area until 2017.
