MANILA, (PNA) — Management of the Metro Rail Transit Corporation on Friday temporarily stopped its train operation after a crack in the rail was detected by its signalling device.
Renato San Jose, MRTC director for operations, said as a standard operating procedure, they halted the train operations from Shaw boulevard station up to North avenue when the rail defect was detected.
The trip from Shaw boulevard to Taft continued unhampered.
San Jose said the crack is located at the southbound track between Santolan and Ortigas stations.
“Kumbaga yung crack na na-detect ng signalling device can be compared sa dislocation or minor fracture sa bone ng isang tao. So, we have to put a sort of brace para pansamantalang mapatakbo ang mga train,” San Jose said.
“The signalling device can detect anything ‘out of the ordinary’ sa tracks,” he added.
He said the defective rail will be inspected and repaired as soon as the MRT stops operations for the day.
He said normal operations resumed at 3:14 pm.
