Dengue vaccine available in 2014, says DOH

Posted on September 5, 2013

DUMARAO, Capiz, Sept. 5 (PNA) -– Department of Health Assistant Secretary Pauline Jean Ubial said the dengue vaccines will be available in 2014.

“It’s good news to all, dengue vaccines will be available in 2014”, Ubial said during the DOH medical mission held in this town Wednesday.

However, the DOH assistant secretary said that prevention by cleaning the surrounding is still the best way to prevent dengue fever.

Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. said that dengue is not new in the province. “We were able to counter it before”, he added.

Earlier, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported that two dengue patients died out of 1,889 dengue cases recorded in Capiz.

According to Jeffrey Espiritu, PHO information officer, the dengue deaths were a 17-year-old boy from Mambusao town and an 11-year-old girl from Brgy. Tanque, this city.

Record shows that of the 1,889 dengue cases recorded in the first seven months of this year, 1,793 patients are from Capiz while the rest came from the nearby provinces.

Roxas City still has the highest number of dengue cases with 753, followed by Mambusao with 143 and Jamindan with 114 cases.

City legislators during their regular session on Tuesday approved an ordinance heightening public awareness on dengue control using mass media.

The ordinance was authored by City Councilor Dr. Cesar Yap Jr., chairman of the Committee on Mass Media.
