MANILA, (PNA) — Malacanang assured Thursday there is ample rice supply in the market.
“We have sufficient [rice] supply. Walang problema sa stock,” Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.
Lacierda also said they would have to verify reports that several rice retailers have been selling only two kilos of rice per customer.”
We’ll ask [Agriculture] Secretary [Proceso] Alcala. Hindi namin alam kung totoo ‘yan eh,” he said.
The National Food Authority allayed fears of a rice shortage and said they have over 652,000 metric tons of rice in stock to last for 18 days.
NFA administrator Orlan Calayag said as of their Aug 27 inventory, there are 2.113 million metric tons of rice in stock to last for 64 days.
