DA NANG, (PNA/VNS) -— Viet Nam handed over the remains of American servicemen who died during the war in Viet Nam at a repatriation ceremony held at Da Nang International Airport Wednesday.
Three boxes of remains recovered by joint teams during the 112th Joint Field Activities that took place from July to September were turned over by Vietnamese people.
The remains had been jointly reviewed by forensic specialists from Viet Nam and the US who concluded that they might be associated with US servicemen. They will be taken to Hawaii for further analysis.
Those who attended the ceremony were representatives from the Viet Nam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP) and representatives of the US Consulate General in HCM City, the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) and the US MIA Office in Ha Noi.
The search for the remains of US servicemen who went missing during the war is a humanitarian cooperation project between the two governments.
This is the 128th handover of American servicemen’s remains since 1973.
