HA NOI, (PNA/VNS) -— The National Traffic Safety Committee said 82 people were killed and 117 others were injured due to traffic accidents during the National Day holidays.
According to the committee, the number of fatalities dropped nearly a half compared to the same holidays last year.
The crash between a coach and a truck, traveling in opposite direction, occurred in northern Phu Tho Province’s Doan Hung District on Sunday midnight, where one was killed and 10 others injured, was believed to be the most serious accident during this year’s National Day holidays.
Vice chairman of the committee Nguyen Hoang Hiep talked to online-newspaper Vnepxress that beer and wine were found to be related to 40 percent of total patients taken to hospitals of Viet Nam–Germany in Ha Noi and Cho Ray in HCM City due to traffic accidents during the holidays.
Statistics of Cho Ray Hospital show that the hospital received more than 250 patients each day, on September 1 and 2, and almost of the patients were victims of traffic accidents.
The HCM City’s Transport Department said the number of patients hospitalized due to traffic accidents accounting for 40 percent of total patients during the holidays, which began on Saturday, August 31, and ended on Monday, September 2.
