MSAMIS ORIENTAL, (PNA) — The Misamis Oriental Karatedo Association (MOKA) on Tuesday sought some “financial” assistance from the provincial government after reaping seven medals during the 2013 Mindanao Batang Pinoy Qualifying League at NCC Mall, Tagum City.
The league was in preparation for the national tournament to be held in Zamboanga City on November 2013.
MAKO coach Jessebel Zamarro said that despite the lack of financial support, seven out of nine Karate-do players representing Misamis Oriental won seven medals – two golds, two silver, and three bronze.
Julien Myka Cozo and Daisy Fajardo won the gold in the individual Kumite/Sparring competition while Jyssa Maye Cozo and Honey Cantero won silver and bronze respectively.
Other winners in individual KATA were Daisy Fajardo (Silver) while Frenz Tom Abbellanosa and Julien Myka Cozo each won the bronze medal.
“They spent their own money just to participate in this qualifying tournament. We hope the provincial government would provide us financial assistance for the national event scheduled next week,” Zamarro said.
She also said that the Misamis Oriental Karate-do players showed their best performance in order to give honor to the province.
“We are also requesting the province’s moral support by recognizing them in whatever that they can in order to encourage them (players),” Zamarro said.
Any financial assistance and moral support would be of great help to inspire the provincial athletes in the national tourney, she said.
Zamarro said that the nine participants to the national tourney in Zamboanga City were Mert Rabaya, Aizille Rabaya, Phoebe Abellanosa’ Kirk Zamayla’ Honey Cantero, Frenz Tom Abellanosa, Jyssa Maye Cozo, Daisy Fajardo and Julien Myka Cozo.
