Will Angel continue to fly high in ABS-CBN?

Posted on August 5, 2007

PNS — ALL questions about Angel Locsin’s looming transfer to ABS-CBN were waiting to be answered in last Friday night’s presscon attended by Angel’s manager, Becky Aguila, Angels’ father, Angel Colmenares and their lawyer, Joji Antonio.

But most writers who wanted juicy bits went down the elevator with still a lot of questions hanging over their heads. Becky answered all questions in a polite manner, soft and calculated, almost always trying to draw understanding.

What they admitted was the sure transfer of Angel to ABS-CBN when she comes back from London , among other things. It is final, as hinted by Beck. What isn’t sure yet are the shows that Angel is going to do, including one which circulated around since last week which supposed to star Angel with Christopher de Leon titled “My Daddy’s Angel.”

Becky spared the higher ups in GMA7, but blamed the way GMA7’s SVP for Entertainment TV, Wilma Galvante handled their talks. She, however, didn’t deny the fact that she learned a lot from Wilma, and her gratitude for her will always stay.

Things are usually easier said than done, and in the case of Becky, it all boils down to one thing: The negotiations that fizzled out between her and Wilma were about contracts, and a new talent fee bracket. She admitted that she really was trying to get somewhere near what Richard Gutierrez has been getting from GMA7, but obviously, they didn’t come to terms.

Even without saying, what she didn’t get from GMA7 (despite the million-peso contracts they enjoyed while they were in the graces of the network), Becky is looking at a “brighter” future in ABS-CBN, financially- wise.

At this point, a writer-editor asked Becky if they consider the feelings of the other stars (who think they are the fair-haired ones in the Kapamilya channel now) who might feel “insecure” with Angel’s transfer. Again, Becky tried to beg for indulgence, and laid down an assurance that they won’t be making a pass on anyone, nor step on anyone’s foot.

Other questions thrown were considered “irrelevant,” like one which wanted to clarify Angels’ background. While the sex video is an old issue and has never been confirmed, the question about Angel’s mother was answered by her father. “No, it’s not true that she’s a maid,” he said, tongue-in-cheek. “She’s at home. Yes, she is also bothered by the issues.”

They also stressed the fact that Angel started out in ABS-CBN and in fact got a scholarship for three months “in acting workshops.” But they didn’t admit the fact that Angel that time didn’t pass the criteria as Star Circle 9 member, and her star only shone when she transferred to GMA7.

There were talks that GMA’s Annette Gozon-Abrogar made a last ditch talk with Becky, but the soft-spoken talent manager would not talk about it. “No comment,” she only said.

We can only wait for Angel to come home and sign up the waiting contract with ABS-CBN. With her “return,” will she continue to fly high like “Darna” and Alwina in “Mulawin”?
