TOKYO, (PNA/Kyodo) — Western Japan experienced the hottest summer ever, with the average temperature from June to August 1.2 C higher than the seasonal average, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Sunday.
The average temperature in eastern Japan in the three-month period was 1.1 C higher than the seasonal average, tying for the third hottest summer, while that of Okinawa and Amami in the south was 0.7 C higher, tying for the second hottest, according to the agency.
Western Japan covers the Kinki area surrounding Osaka as well as the Chugoku, Shikoku and Kyushu regions, while eastern Japan comprises the Kanto-Koshinetsu area including Tokyo as well as the Hokuriku region and the Tokai region surrounding Nagoya.
