PNS — The 13th Foundation Anniversary of Passi City takes off with a weeklong celebration marked by daily event highlights. This, as locals and the City Government here join forces in remembering and honoring Passi’s conversion into a component city.
As such, from March 14th till March 20th, it is all-systems go for the “Pintados de Pasi Festival 2011.” Guiding the celebration is the theme, “Kulturang Passinhon: Amligan para sa katawhayan kag kauswagan (Protect the Passinhon culture for peace and progress).”
Passi City is 50 kilometers north of Iloilo City and easily accessible by both private and public transport. The 45-minute travel is now made easier by a well-established road network.
“This year we promise to bring only the best in activities, events, performances and shows matched by that distinct Passinhon hospitality. Our 13th Foundation Anniversary truly deserves all the hardwork that every Passinhon both in private and public sectors have shown. And we share the fruits of this hardwork as we open our doors to one and all. Join us and be part of our celebration. Adto kamo kag magsinadya kita (Come and have fun with us),” said Passi City Mayor Jesry Palmares.
“Pintados de Pasi Festival” is one of the “destination-festivals” of the Department of Tourism (DOT) every March. Cultural contest and the tribe competition showcase the Passinhon past as depicted in the dances and performances of skillfully tattoed dance warriors.
The 7-day celebration opens with a mass at the Parish of St. William followed by the opening salvo. Day one will also see a local favorite, “Battle of the Mini-Sound” while the evening sees the start of the weeklong food festival with live bands. The Passi City Government Employees Association (PCGEA) for its part adds up to the fun with the search of “Miss LGU “Kuno”, now on its 7th year.
Day two highlight is the talent night for the search of “Binibining Pintados”.
Day three highlights is yet another yearly crowd favorite “Pinta Lawas” competition and the “Ginoong Pintados” search.
Day four will see the “Pintados de Pasi Cultural Contest” while day five will see the “Karosa Parada and Carabao Painting Contest” and the pageant night / grand coronation of “Binibining Pintados.”
Day six is the “Sinadya sa Suba” with the festivities set by the Jalaur River near the Passi City Bus Terminal.
And the big day on Sunday will once again start with a mass at the Parish of St. William followed by the tribe competition itself. Awarding and closing program follow in the afternoon with the capped by “A Night With STARS,” the must-see fireworks display.
“We will have special guests and surprises in store as well. Only the best for Passi City, every Passinhon and our guests,” vowed Mayor Palmares.
