DSWD to validate list of poor households in Cordilleras

Posted on December 16, 2015

BAGUIO CITY, Dec. 16 (PNA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Cordillera Regional Office through its “Listahanan”, the National Household Targeting System for Poverty (NHTS-PR), will validate data gathered on the just concluded household assessment.

Initial results indicate that out of the 229,581 assessed households in the Cordillera Region, 65,720 households or 28.6 percent below the poverty line with the Province of Abra registering 13,258 households; Kalinga with12,760; Benguet – 12,157; Ifugao – 11,066; Apayao – 9,229; and Mountain Province – 7,250.

DSWD OIC Regional Director Janet P. Armas on Wednesday, December 16, said, “to ensure accuracy and credibility of the data of poor households in the region, we have released the initial result of the assessment which is now subject for validation.

“We encourage the public to look into the result now posted in their respective barangays, and check the correctness of the data indicating if they are poor or non-poor,” he said.

The DSWD is encouraging the involvement of the municipal and barangay local government units to ensure that all households will be informed and will participate in this validation, Armas added.

The validation will attend to complaints such as households that should not be included in the list of poor households; households claiming that they should be included in the list of poor households; incorrect data entered in the family assessment form during the assessment; and the initial list of poor households is incomplete and does not represent the actual number of poor households in the community.

Armas said the public may check the initial list of poor households posted in their barangay halls and other designated posting areas in the barangay. (PNA)
