E-JEEPNEY FOR SAN JUAN CITY? – City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) chief Dante Santiago tried one of the electric jeepneys on display at the recently concluded 1st Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit held at the MERALCO Multipurpose Hall, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. The summit, aptly themed “The Road Forward for the Electric Vehicle Industry in the Philippines” was held in celebration of Clean Air Month by the World Wide Fund for Nature-Philippines (WWF-Philippines), the Partnership for Clean Air (PCA), the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), Motor Vehicles Parts Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (MVPMAP) and the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC). Electric vehicles are deemed to be a cleaner, environmentally-friendly alternative transport solutions to current fossil fuel-based transport systems. Santiago said the prospects of using the E-Jeepneys in San Juan will be discussed thoroughly soon with the city officials led by Mayor Guia Gomez, a known advocate of environment preservation, and the city council. The cities of Makati and Puerto Princesa started using electric vehicles years back.
